Who am I?
Lucy Sparrow a.k.a Rookinella is a multimedia artist based in Brighton. She works mainly with felt and wool to create over-sized soft versions of existing objects which, when placed in different surroundings, convey an altogether fantastical approach to life. This playful approach she takes with her work relieves the conditions that are often put on artists to produce something deeply profound and monumental.
Rookinella's "Domestic Feltism" plays on the distorted scale of childhood and a dreamlike approach to textures. Take a walk through a surreal dreamscape where over-sized sardines lollop next to padded rainbow crayons. The land of the soft conquers the harshness of a sharp edged reality.
The subject matter that she uses in her work is often one that provokes nostalgia and a wish for all things to remain unharmful. A kind of Felt Utopia if you like.
Currently based in Brighton working on lots of new projects and filling the house with felt.
She has exhibited with Prescription Art in Brighton and Guerilla Zoo in London as well as pursuing independent commissions.
